More than 200 participants in the 2023 edition.

Held since 1999, the contest is one of the most awaited events of the year in Asturias. With an open and festive spirit, it attracts not only numerous fans and competitors from all over the world, but also a large number of visitors, who enjoy the parades and the traditional music as well as the excellent local gastronomy.

On July 2, 2013, the Minister of Economy and Employment issued the following Resolution:

 

Factual background for the declaration of Festival of Tourist Interest:
 
First. The Tineo City Council presents a document requesting that the "National Gold Batting Championship" in Navelgas (Tineo) be declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Principality of Asturias.
 
Second. Having examined the application submitted, and obtained the mandatory report from the Tourism Advisory Council of the Principality of Asturias (meeting in plenary session on June 20, 2013), and following a favorable report from the Festival Commission (meeting on May 28, 2013), A favorable report is issued to the request, in accordance with the criteria established in Decree 33/2003, of April 30, on Declarations of Tourist Interest.
 
Fundamentals of law
 
First. The Minister of Economy and Employment is competent to issue this resolution in accordance with the provisions of Decree 33/2003, of April 30, on Declarations of Tourist Interest.
 
Second. The Law of the Principality of Asturias 7/2001, of June 22, on Tourism, in its article 59 establishes that the Administration of the Principality of Asturias may declare as goods and activities of tourist interest those facilities, demonstrations and events that contribute, significantly, to increase the attractiveness and tourist image of Asturias.
 
Third. Decree 33/2003, of April 30, on Declarations of Tourist Interest is also applicable, whose article 3 establishes the requirements that, in any case, must be met to proceed with the declaration of Festivals and Activities of Tourist Interest, this is, originality, popular tradition, sociocultural value, antiquity, ability to attract visitors from outside the region and celebration in a periodic and easily determinable manner of the celebration

As regards the effects of the declaration of "Fiesta of Tourist Interest", it should be noted that, according to the provisions of the second paragraph of article 7 of Decree 33/2003, of April 30, 2003, on Declarations of Tourist Interest, it is of an indefinite nature, without prejudice to its revocation in the event of non-compliance or disappearance of the circumstances that led to its granting or the occurrence of others which, had they existed at the time of the declaration, would have led to its denial.

Considering the concurrent factual background and the applicable legal bases, hereby

I RESOLVE

Declare the “National Gold Batting Championship” in Navelgas (Tineo) as a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Principality of Asturias and order its registration in the Registry of Tourist Companies and Activities of the General Directorate of Commerce and Tourism.

This act puts an end to administrative proceedings and an administrative appeal may be filed against it before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Asturias, within two months from the day following that of its notification, without prejudice to the possibility of previously filing an appeal for reversal before the same body that issued the act within one month from the day following that of its notification.

Both appeals cannot be simultaneous, in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 of the Law of the Principality of Asturias 2/1995, of March 13, 1995, on the Legal Regime of the Administration of the Principality of Asturias, and Article 116 of Law 30/1992, of November 26, 1992, on the Legal Regime of the Public Administrations and Common Administrative Procedure, and without prejudice to the interested parties being able to exercise any other that they deem appropriate.
