

Navelgas, the heart of the region
Navelgas is an emblematic village of Western Asturias known worldwide for being an important benchmark in Europe for gold panning. Located in the northwestern area of the council of Tineo, or “Cuarto de los Valles”, Navelgas has traditionally been the economic and service center of the region.
In 2003, Navelgas received the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, in recognition of “its continued and shared effort in the recovery and maintenance of its traditions and natural resources”.

The Gold Museum of Asturias (MOA) is a unique venue, offering gold panning workshops and a guided Gold Heritage Trail.
The Parish Church of San Juan, with a Latin cross plan, houses important altarpieces and religious figures.
The recreational area, surrounded by chestnut and oak trees, includes a bowling alley where Tineo's traditional Bolo Celta is played.
The Villages of Asturias Monument commemorates the festival of the same name, and the Exemplary Village Monument celebrates the 2003 award.
The old Student Residence, founded in 1912, was used until 1993 as an educational centre for boys and girls.
The neighbourhood of Navelgas de Arriba, with its typical wooden granaries, is the original heart of the village and celebrates the Magical Night of the Esfoyón and Amagüestu in November each year.
The neighbourhood of San Nicolás, known for its markets and livestock fairs, and the neighbourhood of La Ferrería, with its old forges, are examples of the town's rich local history.

Navelgas Arena, located next to the river, hosts the National Goldpanning Championships every year on the last weekend of July.

The first is an open-air museum that takes us into the forest to experience its coexistence with traditional buildings and water mills. A walk for enjoying nature in an incomparable setting.
The Vaqueiro Museum shows us the life, history and customs of the Vaqueiros de Alzada, traditional nomadic cowherds (open in August from 11:00 to 14:00).
