Navelgas, the heart of the region
Navelgas is an emblematic village of Western Asturias known worldwide for being an important benchmark in Europe for gold batting. Located in the northwestern area of the council of Tineo, or “Cuarto de los Valles”, Navelgas has traditionally been the economic and service center of the region.
In 2003, Navelgas was awarded with the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, in recognition of “its continued and shared effort in the recovery and maintenance of its traditions and natural resources”.

The Gold Museum of Asturias (MOA) is unique in its kind and offers gold panning workshops, as well as the Gold Footprint Route.
The Parish Church of San Juan, with a Latin cross plan, houses important altarpieces and religious figures.
The recreational area, surrounded by chestnut and oak trees, includes a bowling alley dedicated to Bolo Celta de Tineo.
The Villages Day Monument commemorates the holiday of the same name, and the Exemplary Village Monument celebrates the 2003 award.
The Home School, founded in 1912, operated until 1993 as an educational center for boys and girls.
The neighborhood of Navelgas de Arriba, with its granaries, is the original core of the village and celebrates in November the Magical Night of the Esfoyón and Amagüestu.
The neighborhood of San Nicolás, known for its markets and livestock fairs, and the neighborhood of La Ferrería, with its old forges, are examples of the rich local history.
The Nicolás House, built in 1842, mixes popular and noble architecture.
Navelgas Arena, a riverside promenade, hosts every year the National Goldpanning Championship, held the last weekend of July.
