Following the success of the last National Goldpanning Championship, which was held during the last weekend of July in Navelgas (Tineo), with the participation of over 250 gold panners, a delegation of the “Barciaecus” Goldpanning Association, organizer of the championships, travelled this week to Pilgrim's Rest (South Africa), to participate in the World Goldpanning Championship 2023, where several gold panners progressed to the semifinals in a number of categories.
During these championships, the venues for next editions are also chosen, with Navelgas being selected to host the 2025 World Goldpanning Championship.
Navelgas will, for the third time, host the world goldpanning championship.
The decision was taken yesterday in South Africa at the annual meeting of the World Goldpanning Association, WGA, an association that includes representatives from all the countries where this sport is practiced.
Navelgas will thus host the world championship for the third time in its history, after the 2008 and 2015 editions.
The Spanish delegation participating in the 2023 World Goldpanning Championship in South Africa, led by panners from the Navelgas association “Barciaecus”, defended the Spanish bid for 2025, which was supported by the rest of the countries.
At next year's world championships in the Czech Republic (Zlate Hory), the Spanish delegation will present the 2025 programme to their fellow goldpanners and invite them to come to Navelgas.
More than 500 gold panners from five continents are expected to compete during a week in Navelgas in this, their third world championship.
